FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Last Frontier Theatre Conference takes place yearly in beautiful Valdez, Alaska. 50 to 60 playwrights are chosen to have their work presented in the Play Lab. Selected plays receive a rehearsed reading that is responded to by a panel of theatre professionals. Additionally, each writer gets a private conversation about their script with one of their panelists.

The Conference includes multiple classes and panel discussions on the craft and business of theatre. There are also additional opportunities for Play Lab writers to present more of their short work at the Conference through the Fringe Festival and Ten-Minute Play Slam. Each night there are live performances, followed by receptions.

Each year a new community of theatre artists is formed from the hundreds of attending playwrights, directors, actors, and theatre enthusiasts who come from all over the world.

Submission Guidelines
Entries should be submitted via e-mail either as a Microsoft Word document or PDF file to dmoore@pwscc.edu. If submitting by e-mail is a problem, contact the Conference Coordinator to make other arrangements. Please include an approximate reading time. Scripts are eligible if they:

  • Have not received a professional production. Readings and amateur productions are acceptable.
  • Have a running time between twenty minutes and two hours. Please note that more short plays will be accepted than long ones, so submitting a shorter script increases your chances of being invited.
  • Are not musicals.
  • Are received by January 15, 2009.
  • Accepted playwrights must attend and register for the Conference.
  • They are responsible for getting themselves to Valdez.

One submission per author.
Receipt of submissions will be acknowledged via e-mail.
Selections will be mailed out and announced
on the website by March 15, 2009.
